Beginning in the mid 1990s, Côte Blanche Productions produced a trilogy of environmental documentaries for the Barataria Terrebonne National Estuary Program. Barataria-Terrebonne — basically that enormous tangle of bayous, bays and wetlands that form a triangle between the Mississippi River, the Atchafalaya Swamp, and the Gulf of Mexico — is the fastest disappearing land mass in the world. An acre vanishes under water every half hour or so. For us, it’s also home.
First in the series, the award-winning hour-long Haunted Waters, Fragile Lands follows immigrants to the Mississippi River delta to show how history and ecology transform each other.
